Milk Plant Processing Information (Cheese, Butter, Ice Cream)

IDAPA 02.04.06, Requirements for Licensed Dairy Plants, governs the requirements for the design, construction, and operation of dairy plants licensed to process milk for manufacturing purposes. This rule incorporates by reference “Subpart E — Requirements for Licensed Dairy Plants,” of the ‘Milk for Manufacturing Purposes and Its Production and Processing, Recommended Requirements’ published by USDA, AMS, Dairy Programs and made effective July 21, 2011. In addition, ISDA through a Cooperative Agreement with USDA, conducts USDA/AMS Dairy Grading inspections on milk processors who voluntarily request this service. ISDA also grades or samples dairy products under this program.

Grade A Processing Plants

Grade A processing plants must meet the provisions as outlined in the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance which has been incorporated by reference as rule under IDAPA 02.04.08.

Grade B or Manufacture Grade Milk Processing Plants
Grade B or Manufacture Grade Milk Plants are governed under rule IDAPA 02.04.05.
