Market Development Division

The Market Development Division of ISDA is a public resource providing marketing assistance to Idaho’s food and agriculture industry. The Division’s mission is “to promote Idaho’s food and agriculture industry by expanding opportunities in domestic and foreign markets fostering industry growth and profitability.”

Marketing of Idaho’s agricultural products creates awareness for the commodities grown on Idaho farms and ranches and helps locate markets for Idaho’s bountiful harvest.

International

With 96% of the world’s population and 80% of the world’s wealth being outside of the United States, the international market opportunities for agricultural products are great. The Division works to connect Idaho producers with foreign buyers through its international trade offices, trade shows, buying missions, menu promotions, in-store retail promotions, and trade missions. These activities allow Idaho producers access to key government and industry contacts and help expand and grow international sales.

Domestic

A top consumer food trend is locally-grown products, which means consumers are demanding more locally-grown produce, locally-sourced meat, and locally-produced beverages. The Idaho Preferred® program, administered by ISDA, showcases the quality, diversity, and availability of Idaho food and agricultural products and seeks to capitalize on this growing demand for local products. Retail and food service partnerships; effective radio, and TV advertising; the introduction of Idaho fruits into school lunch menus; and many special event promotions have contributed to increased sales of Idaho products in local markets.

Apart from administering the Idaho Preferred® program, the Division’s domestic efforts include administering grant and loan programs such as the Specialty Crop Block Grant Program, promoting farmers’ markets and showcasing specialty foods.
