Veterinary Feed Directive

The Veterinary Feed Directive (VFD) went into effect January 1, 2017, and applies to all medicated feed and water intended for livestock. With this new program from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), medicated food and water used in the treatment of a herd or flock of livestock must be obtained through a licensed veterinarian. The veterinarian will complete a VFD form for feed containing any of the medications identified by the FDA that will be administered to a herd/flock. This feed should not be compounded without a valid VFD form. If you are a producer looking for information on the VFD, please contact your veterinarian.
