Governor Proclaims August as Idaho Farmers Market Month

Tuesday August 13, 2024

Boise, Idaho — Governor Little officially proclaimed August as Idaho Farmers Market Month, recognizing the essential role that farmers markets play in connecting Idahoans to fresh, locally grown foods.

Idaho Farmers Market Month is an annual celebration of the over 55 farmers markets currently operating throughout the state. Idaho farmers markets are a cornerstone of community life, offering Idahoans the ability to purchase food directly from the people who grow it, ensuring that consumers get the highest quality produce available.

"Farmers markets are vital to our communities, providing access to the freshest local foods and strengthening the connection between Idaho farmers and consumers," said Erica White, ISDA Idaho Preferred Program Manager. "We're proud to offer resources like the Farmers Market Finder to help Idahoans easily discover and enjoy the bounty of our state's agriculture."

To help Idahoans find their local markets, Idaho Preferred has developed the Farmers Market Finder. The online tool allows consumers to locate farmers markets statewide with ease, using filterable options such as day of the week, region and services offered including whether markets accept SNAP benefits or participate in programs like Double Up Food Bucks.

As part of Idaho Preferred’s ongoing efforts, the new "I'd Prefer Fresh from Idaho Farmers Markets" campaign encourages Idahoans to purchase fresh, local produce and experience the benefits of shopping at farmers markets.
