Idaho Organics Week Celebrates Local Organic Agriculture

Monday July 22, 2024

Boise, Idaho — Governor Brad Little has declared July 21-27, 2024, Idaho Organics Week to formally recognize and celebrate the impact of Idaho organic agriculture. Organics week aims to highlight the economic contributions, environmental benefits and appeal of locally produced organic products.

“Idaho takes pride in honoring our organic producers who continue to deliver outstanding choices to meet the demand for organic products," said Laura Johnson, Idaho State Department of Agriculture Marketing Bureau Chief. “Celebrating Idaho Organics Week allows us to showcase the vibrant contributions and innovative growth of Idaho agriculture."

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Idaho has over 330 organic operations spanning more than 216,000 acres of organic cropland and rangeland. The ISDA Organic Certification Program certifies the majority of these operations. Idaho ranks seventh in the nation for certified organic acreage.

Organic agriculture in Idaho generates $220 million annually, underscoring the significance of this sector to the state's economy. Idaho ranks eleventh in the nation for overall certified organic sales, offering a diverse array of high-quality organic goods.

“Consumer demand for organic products is steadily rising across Idaho, and we aim to make it simple for Idahoans to find locally grown and raised organic products,” said Erica White, Idaho Preferred Program Manager. “Whether you’re looking for fresh organic fruits and vegetables, locally raised organic meats, or artisanal organic goods, the Idaho Preferred Organic Farm + Food Finder Directory is your go-to resource for discovering the wide variety of organic options in your area.”

During Idaho Organics Week, Idahoans are encouraged to explore the wide range of local organic products available directly from producers, farmers markets, grocery stores and restaurants throughout the state.
