Chemigation

Chemigation is the process by which chemicals (fertilizers or pesticides) are added to irrigation water to be applied to land, crops, or plants through an irrigation system. This may include applications made to agricultural crops, applications made to lawns and golf courses, or applications made in a nursery or greenhouse setting. Because of the potential for ground and surface water contamination from the injection of these chemicals, the Idaho State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) monitors and regulates chemigation practices and ensures that licensing and equipment requirements are met by those who chemigate. A chemigation license must be obtained and approved backflow prevention equipment must be used in order to chemigate.
