Open Range in Idaho
Open Range Law Idaho Code 25-2118 defines open range as “All unenclosed lands outside of cities, villages, and herd districts, upon which cattle, by custom, license, lease, or permit, are grazed or permitted to roam.
Idaho Herd Districts Idaho Code Title 25, Chapter 24 outlines the authority and requirements to develop and govern herd districts in Idaho. One of these requirements includes enclosure by lawful fences. To determine if an area is within a designated herd district please refer to the map below or contact the county commissioners’ office governing that area.
Fence Laws Idaho Code Title 35, Chapter 1 outlines the requirements and considerations for fences in the state. This law includes but isn’t limited to:
