Monday May 5, 2025

Boise, Idaho – Governor Brad Little has officially proclaimed May as Idaho Horticulture Month, honoring the invaluable contributions of Idaho’s nursery and greenhouse growers to the state’s economy, environment and communities. The Idaho State Department of Agriculture’s Idaho Preferred program is encouraging Idahoans the choose Idaho-grown plants, trees, flowers and produce starts this spring.

“What grows in Idaho, thrives in Idaho,” said Erica White, Program Manager for the Idaho Preferred. “When you choose locally grown plants, you’re choosing varieties that are naturally suited to Idaho’s unique climate and soil—and you’re directly supporting the Idaho growers who work hard to ensure your plants will hold up to the state’s unique growing conditions.”

To help residents shop local, Idaho Preferred has published the 2025 Nursery & Greenhouse Growers Guide, a digital resource featuring Idaho Preferred participants, vetted Idaho producers who have met eligibility requirements to ensure their plants and products are grown in Idaho.

Additionally, Idaho Preferred and the Idaho Nursery and Landscape Association (INLA) provide a statewide directory of producers—from independent nurseries and greenhouses to landscape professionals and garden centers—committed to growing and sourcing Idaho plants.

When shopping, consumers are encouraged to look for the Idaho Preferred logo—a trusted mark that identifies products grown right here in the Gem State.
