The department proposes to incorporate by reference the 2018 edition of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Handbook 44 Specifications, Tolerances, and Other Technical Requirements for Weighing and Measuring.

NIST documents are available online at https://www.nist.gov/pml/weights-and-measures/publications. Updating this reference document promotes uniformity by keeping codes current with new technology and inline with surrounding states that also adopt this reference handbook.
