What is an On-Farm Readiness Review (OFRR)?
An OFRR is a voluntary, non-regulatory review of a farm’s covered activities which is intended to prepare farmers for implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule (PSR). Reviewers can provide resources and tools to an individual farm to help them comply with the rule requirements and be prepared for regulatory farm inspections.
Reasons why a farmer might want to undertake an OFRR:
- It is voluntary and free.
- It will help farmers align what they are doing with what is required in the rule.
- It will help farmers implement on-farm produce safety practices.
- It provides a personalized discussion about the farm’s food safety activities.
- All notes taken by the farmer and by the reviewers remain the property of the farmer.
- It will improve the farmer’s readiness for a PSR inspection.
- It will provide the farmer with an opportunity to meet the Idaho regulatory and education team.
- Reference manual provided to participant.
Who will be conducting the OFRR?
The Idaho OFRR team will consist of 2-3 Idaho State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) personnel and University of Idaho Extension personnel. The team will provide the farmer with information on the PSR regulation including education and technical assistance.

This worksheet is not intended to cover all aspects of the Produce Safety Rule (PSR), but covers the major concepts and components of the rule.
