Cattle & Bison Imports
On April 29th, a federal order went into effect regarding the interstate movement of lactating dairy cattle and H5N1/Bovine Influenza A Virus (BIAV). This order prohibits the movement of animals from a currently affected or suspect premises and enacts testing requirements. In addition to their standard import requirements, lactating dairy cattle moving interstate have the following requirements:
- CVI must state lactation status (Lactating or Non-Lactating)
- Up to 30 head of lactating cattle from each shipment require a negative H5N1 test within 7 days before entry, in accordance with the current federal guidance document. Movements of 30 head or less require that all animals be tested. Movements of more than 30 head require 30 head in that shipment be tested.
- Negative test date and lab name must be recorded on CVI.
Intact female dairy cattle moving directly to slaughter must have either a CVI listing lactation status and official identification, or an alternate movement document listing official identification or back tag numbers. This alternate movement document is only valid for animals moving directly to slaughter.

In addition to the below requirements, all cattle and bison from Canada require an entry permit and individual, official identification listed on the CVI.
Female Cattle (Intact):
- CVI with the full physical address of the destination.
- 4 months and older require vaccination for brucellosis with their legible tattoo recorded on the CVI. If they are not vaccinated they can only go to approved feedlots or approved livestock markets.
- Non-Brucellosis vaccinated females going to approved feedlots or approved livestock markets require an entry permit or approved eCVI.
- Unless entering an approved tagging site, 18 months and older require individual, official identification to be listed on the CVI.
- All animals moving for show require individual, official identification to be listed on the CVI.
- CVI with the full physical address of the destination.
- Entry permit or approved eCVI.
- 4 months and older require vaccination for brucellosis with their legible tattoo recorded on the CVI. If they are not vaccinated they can only go to approved feedlots or approved livestock markets.
- All animals 6 months of age and older are required to have a negative tuberculosis test within 60 days before entering Idaho unless entering an approved feedlot.
- Unless entering an approved tagging site, individual, official identification must be listed on the CVI.
- CVI with the full physical address of the destination.
- 4 months and older require vaccination for brucellosis with their legible tattoo recorded on the CVI. Unvaccinated females require an entry permit or approved eCVI.
- All animals 6 months of age and older are required to have a negative tuberculosis test within 12 months before entering Idaho.
- Individual, official identification must be listed on the CVI.
- CVI with the full physical address of the destination.
- 4 months and older require vaccination for brucellosis with their legible tattoo recorded on the CVI. Non-vaccinated females require an entry permit or approved eCVI.
- Intact dairy breed cattle moving for show require an entry permit or approved eCVI.
- Individual, official identification must be listed on the CVI.
Male Cattle (Intact):
- CVI with the full physical address of the destination.
- Entry permit or approved eCVI.
- Non-virgin bulls of any age and all bulls 18 months of age or older require a negative PCR test for trichomoniasis within 60 days before entering Idaho, otherwise, they can only go to approved feedlots or approved livestock markets. Idaho only accepts pooled trichomoniasis tests when the pooling is conducted at an approved lab.
- Unless entering an approved tagging site, 18 months and older require individual, official identification to be listed on the CVI.
- All animals moving for show require individual, official identification to be listed on the CVI.
- CVI with the full physical address of the destination.
- Entry permit or approved eCVI.
- Non-virgin bulls of any age and all bulls 18 months of age or older require a negative PCR test for trichomoniasis within 60 days before entering Idaho, otherwise, they can only go to approved feedlots or approved livestock markets. Spayed or Freemartin Female Cattle and Castrated Male Cattle:
- CVI with the full physical address of the destination.
- If animals are moving for show, individual, official identification must be listed on the CVI.
- CVI with the full physical address of the destination.
- If animals are moving for show, individual, official identification must be listed on the CVI.
- Unless entering an approved tagging site, a statement that all animals have individual, official identification.
- CVI with the full physical address of the destination.
- All animals 6 months of age and older are required to have a negative tuberculosis test within 12 months before entering Idaho.
- Individual, official identification must be listed on the CVI.
- CVI with the full physical address of the destination.
- Individual, official identification must be listed on the CVI.
All cattle going directly to an Approved Slaughter Facility to be slaughtered within 3 days are exempt from all of the above requirements.
*Entry Permits are not required when using an approved electronic CVI form. The only approved eCVI forms are those from GlobalVetLink, State of Oregon, Washington OVIS, Vet Sentry, Sale Time, Mi-Corporation, myVetTech, Acclaim Systems VET CVI and State of Texas. If you are not using one of these forms, normal permit requirements still apply. Please note VSPS is NOT an approved eCVI system.
